“SpyGate”
President Trump coined the term May 23rd, 2018, with the following tweet:

But what is it?
“SpyGate” is the alleged weaponization of the U.S. Government’s Intelligence apparatus to intercept communications of the Obama Administration’s political opponents during and after the 2016 Presidential election. It is history unfolding as I write.
(At the date of this paragraph (Monday May 6th, 2019) Inspector General Michael Horowitz’ report is weeks away from publication. Pay attention to June and July 2015 below, to see why the upcoming report might be called “Horowitz’ Payback”. )
But, like other chapters of American History, it is one with many preceding.
If I were to write a documentary script for “Spygate: the Movie”, my opening sequence would start with Donald Trump’s July 2015 official announcement of his candidacy, followed by an immediate flashback to a critical event one month prior.
But for “Spygate: The book” I would follow that flashback , with the following quick review from years 1952, 1978, 2001, ’02, ’08, ’09, ’13 before looking at June of 2015 when Obama’s Attorney General Sally Yates, blocked Inspector General Michael Horowitz’ access to intercepted communications.

The National Security Agency: 1952
The NSA was formed in 1952 after WWII from Harry S. Truman’s directive. Operating under the Department of Defense, part of its mission is the interception, and analysis of coded transmissions by electronic or other means.

1978 FISA: 1978
The 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act forbade the NSA from targeting U.S. Citizens unless considered “Agents of a foreign power”. Warrants can be obtained for exceptions when matters of national security are at stake.

9/11 & The Patriot Act, 2002
After the September 11th, 2001 terror attacks on the U.S., the Patriot Act of 2001 authorized the President to use “all necessary and appropriate force” against those who caused 9/11.
January 2002. Controversy. Using the Patriot Act as justification, President George W. Bush secretly authorized the NSA to monitor international phone calls & emails of U.S. citizens and others without obtaining an order from the FISA court.

Expanded Power: 2008
The NSA was granted immunity from lawsuits and given expanded powers after legislation was passed by Congress and signed into law by Bush in July 2008.

On his first day in office, President Obama pledged to end government secrecy. That pledge became increasingly empty. By June of 2015, it was more than a pledge broken.

The old rules said that if there was a defensible argument for not disclosing something to the American people, then it should not be disclosed.
That era is now over.
Starting today every Agency and Department should know that this Administration stands on the side not of those who seek to withhold information, but those who seek to make it known.
To be sure issues like personal privacy and national security must be treated with the care they demand.
But the mere fact that you have the legal power to keep something secret does not mean you should always use it.

Information will not be withheld just because I say so.
It will be withheld because a separate Authority believes my request is well grounded in the Constitution.

Metadata, Dishfire, Incidental Collection: 2013
Security Contractor Edward Snowden leaked classified information about programs designed to target non- U.S. citizens, where incidental information was collected. “Dishfire” collected extensive, massive, worldwide text messages from cellular phones, and another collected ‘metadata’ on phone numbers, & length of calls, (but not content).

“Someone leaks the unmasked name of Congresswoman Jane Harmon to the press. According to news reports, the Bush administration NSA incidentally recorded and saved Harmon’s phone conversations with pro-Israel lobbyists who were under investigation for espionage. The story is first broken by Congressional Quarterly’s Jeff Stein.”

The Israel Connection
Before the Mueller Report was released, George Papadopoulos openly speculated in both his book “Deep State Target” and in his interview with Dan Bongino 11/02/2018 that he had been under FISA surveillance. His work with Seth Cropsey as a Research Associate at the Hudson Institute was at odds with the Obama State Department, and on October 26th, Matthew Bryza let him know as much in an unpleasant conversation. Papadopoulos’ contribution to the monograph, “U.S. Policy and the Strategic Relationship of Greece, Cyprus and Israel: Power Shifts in the Eastern Mediterranean” had put him on the map.
The Mueller report, released April 18th, 2019, confirmed that George Papadapoulos was suspected–and cleared of–acting as an unregistered agent of the Israeli government. Unfortunately, the legal language used, misleads the layman, does not appear to uphold the standard “innocent until proven guilty”, and acts as fodder for activist journalism. It says:
“While the investigation revealed significant ties between Papadopoulos and Israel (and search warrants were obtained in part on that basis), the Office ultimately determined that the evidence was not sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction under FARA or Section 951.”

The statement deserves careful attention.
“the evidence was not sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction….
That’s legalese, not to be confused with “We really think Joe Schmoe committed the murder…. but, by George, he got away with it…. could not find that evidence….”
“significant ties between Papadopoulos and Israel.”
Significant ties?
Keep in mind that Papadopoulos’ own book openly, unashamedly discloses his ‘significant ties’ with Israel, that is, his professional relationships with those connected with the Israeli & other governments. As an energy consultant, and Trump campaign proxy, that was his job.

What kind of search warrants? Of critical importance: When? On what basis did they suspect him of being an Agent of the Israeli Government? According multiple published sources, no warrants were shown at his April 2017 airport arrest when FBI agents searched his belongings.
More on this in the timeline that follows, but this could be the bombshell that, hear me out, leads to the indictment of multiple individuals, including … hear me out … Robert Mueller?
As reported December 4th, 2017, there was plenty of haste surrounding George Papadopoulos’ arrest. There was no warrant.
Breen declined to detail the cooperation with Mueller’s team but told POLITICO that aspects of the case remain a mystery to him, including why prosecutors acted with such haste to arrest his client in July even before they had gone to court to seek a warrant or formal charges.
“They had probable cause. They could have arrested him at any time,” the veteran defense attorney said. “Why’d they do it at that point in time? I don’t know. They haven’t told me their strategy.”

Well, the strategy appears to be entrapment. I’m now directing readers to explore the “EXPLOSIVE” link below and interviews sprinkled throughout, plus his book “Deep State Target”.
But the following link in particular is the most late-breaking news and provides FOIA information which appears to confirm Charles Tawill as an agent sent to entrap GP with $10,000. Those who arrested GP were looking for something and appeared to be beside themselves when they did not find it. GP wisely left the cash with a lawyer overseas.

This leads me, and many others, to believe that they then came up with the ‘lying over contacts with Mifsud’ in such haste that they failed to realize any comment GP might have made on emails and Russians in May would have been moot due to televised reports Jan-May 2016 that said the same thing at the time. Whether or not Mifsud was acting in conjunction with US intelligence, whether or not Downer did what he did on his own, the basis for Crossfire Hurricane was an illegal entrapment scheme attempting to cover an illegal entrapment scheme which led to further illegal entrapment schemes…

In part? Meaning, not wholly on his interactions with Mifsud? Mifsud had nothing to do with Papadopoulos and Israel. GP believes he was being monitored as far back as October of 2015.

“That” = “Significant Ties” with Israel.
In other words, warrants were obtained due to suspicions–legitimate or not– of his being a ‘foreign agent’ of Israel, based on those ‘significant ties’.
It does not indicate whether Mueller’s investigative team obtained all the warrants. Plural. Warrants.
Again, when were the warrants (plural: more than one!) obtained?
The public was led to believe through the New York Times May 16th, 2018 article “Code Name Crossfire Hurricane: The Secret Origins of the Trump Investigation” that the counterintelligence investigation began August 2nd, 2016, after Alexander Downer reported his May 10th, 2016 meeting with GP. As the story goes, George’s comments to Downer were about ‘damaging information on Hillary that the Russians might release’. They had nothing to do with Israel. However, Papadopoulos says repeatedly that Downer and others questioned him on his positions on Israel, indicating that they had knowledge of his think-tank work on Geo-Political Energy policies in the Middle East, with Seth Cropsey at the Hudson Institute.
Bongino: You may have been on the radar prior [to Trump’s foreign policy team announcement].
Papadopoulos: That’s absolutely right.
I was on the target of some intelligence group – and they definitely knew who I was. And just to make it clear to everyone listening, when I met with Mifsud, when I met with Alexander Downer, and when I met with Stefan Halper, do you know what these people all had in common? They all wanted to talk about my business in the Middle East. And what I was doing regarding advising American Oil companies, etc, etc.

DNC hires Crowdstrike for Hacking, FBI left out
The DNC brings in “Crowdstrike” (but not the FBI) to deal with the hacking of computers. It is not clear when exactly they became aware that their computers were compromised.
It can be inferred that by not allowing the FBI to investigate, leaders within the DNC were able to obscure the date they became aware of the hack, and delaying it from becoming a news event, giving them enough time to plan to entrap someone in the Trump campaign of being an agent of Russia or of colluding with an agent of Russia.

Although it cannot be determined precisely when DNC staffers were alerted that they’d become targets, Thomas Rid’s March 30th, 2017 testimony report states that three DNC staffers were “tricked into clicking the treacherous “reset password” button on April 6th, 2016.
It is possible to infer that DNC staffers had not been alerted and Crowdstrike not hired at that point, April 6th, 2016.
Finally, in past year, the timeline of US-election operations began to align. In early March, GRU began to train its well-established, semi-automated targeting tools from worldwide military and diplomatic targets to US political targets. Between 10 March and 7 April, GRU targeted at least 109 Clinton campaign staffers with 214 individual phishing emails (with 8 more attempts on 12 and 13 May). 36 times Clinton staffers clicked a malicious link (the success rate of actually breaching the account after a victim clicked this link is 1-in-7). Russian intelligence targeted Jake Sullivan in at least 14 different attempts beginning on 19 March, each time with a different malicious link against two of his email addresses. GRU targeted Hillary Clinton’s personal email account at least two times in March, but the available data show that she did not fall for the password reset trick. The military intelligence agency also targeted DNC staffers with 16 emails between 15 March and 11 April, and 3 DNC staffers were tricked into clicking the treacherous “reset password” button on 6 April 2016.
Less than two weeks later, on 19 April, the front website DCLeaks.com was registered as a leak outlet for hacked files.10

Papadopoulos: “imagine yourself right now. You’re meeting somebody that you have no idea why you’re meeting with him except that he just wants to have lunch. And they drop a bomb on you. It’s as if, you know, I didn’t know what he wanted to talk about, and he just said to me, as I’m sitting there enjoying my omelette:“George, I have information that the Russians have thousands of Hillary Clinton’s emails.”
“I couldn’t even finish the piece of food in my mouth as he’s talking to me. And I’m just thinking, ‘is this guy just validating rumors that Judge Napolitano, I think the day before, was openly speculating on Fox News. Many people in the media were speculating about it.’
“I was just looking at him, like okay, that’s interesting. This guy’s validating rumors. But how on earth would he have this information. This was going in my mind.
“How does he have this information if he couldn’t even introduce me to anyone of substance in the Russian government. Which, actually I was trying to connect with at the time. Just to understand what the US-Russia relationship was all about. Then he drops this information on me and when said it to me, I didn’t find him credible. That’s the truth.
Papadopoulos could also have had in the back of his mind Judge Napolitano and Brett Baier’s comments (03:50 mark) regarding the Uranium One scandal and the Clinton Foundation. Romanian Hacker Claims He Accessed Hillary’s Email Server: ‘It Was Easy’ –Fox News Insider
A notorious Romanian hacker claimed to Fox News that he easily and repeatedly breached Hillary Clinton’s email server when she was secretary of state in 2013.
Marcel Lehel Lazar, who goes by the moniker “Guccifer,” spoke exclusively to Chief Intelligence Correspondent Catherine Herridge at the Virginia jail where he’s being held.
“For me, it was easy … easy for me, for everybody,” he said about getting into Clinton’s server.

“Crossfire Hurricane” was supposedly opened due to Alexander Downer’s report that Papadopolous had mentioned something about Russians releasing damaging information on Hillary during their May 10th, 2016 meeting. Even if Papadopoulos had said as much, or more, there was no logical reason for the FBI to suspect Papadopolous of having compromised information, because the subject of hacking into Hillary Clinton’s server and releasing Hillary’s emails was on multiple news reports from at least January through May 13th. Therefore, the investigation had no justifiable predicate, and was opened illegally.
This is not to be confused with the March hacking of the DNC which was not yet publicized. These were two separate events, one in the news, and one yet to come.

Alexander Downer, the Australian High Commissioner to the U.K. meets Papadopoulos at Kensington Wine Rooms in London. Contrary to the New York Times, George Papadopoulos was not drunk, and this was no chance encounter. Think of how bizarre it would be for the Australian Ambassador to Britain to randomly encounter a 25 year old Trump campaign advisor, drinking in a bar. Alexander Downer had requested the meeting. Unknown to Papadopoulos at the time, it was later revealed the Downer had authorized a $25 million payment from the Australian government to the Clinton Foundation. “We know from the most senior intelligence officials that the Russian government hacks and transfer of information to WikiLeaks were conducted at a minimum to cause Americans to lose faith in their political process, and at a maximum to increase the odds that Trump could win the election. ….…. it is not at all far-fetched to ask whether Trump is indeed the “puppet” Secretary Clinton mockingly named him in the second [actually third] presidential debate. Is he financially and politically beholden to Russians close to the government and to the Kremlin itself? ….
Today, we already have enough clues and too much undisclosed information to warrant worry about the puppet scenario. There are signs the Trump campaign was involved in coordinating this release of hacked information—then-adviser Carter Page’s trips and meetings in Moscow, and Russian statements that they were in touch with the campaign. And of course, Trump publicly called on the Russian government to continue hacking Hillary Clinton’s computers during a televised campaign appearance. His campaign dismissed it as a joke; it’s not clear everyone did.
If the answers yield further evidence that the president-elect is indebted to the Russian government or individuals with Kremlin ties, the intelligence community and policy officials should also begin disclosing what they know about whether Trump’s associates have been in contact with Russian officials, and what they’ve been discussing.
There are U.S. government officials who know the answers to these questions; the most powerful among them, with the ability to declassify intelligence, will leave when power is transferred to Trump.

James Comey: James Clapper Briefed Barack Obama on ‘Pee Tape’ Dossier After Donald Trump Election
Former FBI director James Comey reveals in his book that then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper led an intelligence briefing with President Barack Obama about the unverified Michael Steele dossier.
Comey told ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos that Clapper presented the Steele dossier to Obama as “sufficiently reliable” coming from “a reliable source.”
The briefing took place on January 5th in the Oval Office, before Trump was ingratiated and included Obama and his national security team as well as Vice President Joe Biden.
“It was sufficiently reliable that we thought it oughta be part of the entire report,” Comey said about the dossier.
When Clapper told Obama about the unverified sexual accusations against Trump, Obama expressed wariness about briefing the president-elect about that information.
Comey told the Obama team that he would be the one briefing Trump about the information privately and detailed President Obama’s reaction:
He didn’t say a word. President Obama has a great poker face. But he simply turned– so if I’m President Obama, he turned slightly to his left, looked at me, and went like this– and looked back at Director Clapper. So kind of gave me a– Groucho Marx is how I thought of it, double eyebrow raise. Didn’t say a word, but communicated to me at least– and I could be misreading it, ’cause I don’t know President Obama’s eyebrow raises, that sort of– sympathy and concern. Like, “Good luck with that.” And– and that was it.

What Joe Biden said about January 5th, 2017
In an interview, Biden said neither he nor Obama asked U.S. intelligence agencies to try to corroborate the unverified claims that Russia had obtained compromising sexual and financial allegations about Trump.
“I think it’s something that obviously the agency thinks they have to track down,” Biden said. He added later, “It surprised me in that it made it to the point where the agency, the FBI thought they had to pursue it.”
Biden said that in the briefing he and Obama received from Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and others, there were “no conclusions drawn” from the uncorroborated dossier, which was produced in August and then released publicly this week by the media. Biden said it was “totally ancillary” to the purpose of the meeting, which was to brief Obama on a report he ordered documenting Russian interference in the U.S. campaign.
“As a matter of fact, the president was like, ’What does this have anything to do with anything?’” Biden said. He said intelligence leaders responded by saying “Well, we feel obliged to tell you, Mr. President, because you may hear about it. We’re going to tell him,” referring to Trump.
Biden said intelligence leaders told him and Obama that they couldn’t say whether or not the allegations were true or untrue. He said there was “hardly any discussion” about the allegations in the briefing.
“Neither the president nor I asked for any detail,” Biden said. But he added of the dossier: “I’ve read everything.”
